Not sure why this occurs, it's a generic error where the server finds the device but cannot read information from it. This can occur due to several reasons, most common is troublesome USB drivers but as you say it has been working for a long time so unless the drivers changed it should not be the case. Other candidates are faulty cable/connector or corrupt device firmware.

I've sent you download links for previous version (0.9.49 & 0.9.51) and a firmware updater.

If this does not help it would be interesting to know if the same issue occurs on another computer.
